A New Beginning for the Radio Club: Return of the Lattice Antenna Tower After Nine Years

The era of working with wire antennas appears to be coming to an end. A full nine years have passed since the radio club had to leave its barracks at Paskulina ciglana because it was being demolished. The club operated at that location for more than 40 years. Along with the club premises, there stood a 16 m high lattice antenna tower carrying a 6-element antenna for the upper HF bands. Since that year, 2015, we have not had a permanent space for the club's operation, and consequently no possibility of installing any serious tower. We were forced to work with wire antennas, mainly sloper dipoles for the lower HF bands.

This year, through a series of fortunate circumstances but also the agility and persistence of certain club members, we managed to purchase a 15-metre lattice tower and pour the associated reinforced-concrete foundation that will support it. Because of the arrival of colder days, we halted further activities until spring. Namely, our old antenna, a Hi-Gain TH6-DXX, needs servicing, so we will use the period until spring for a general overhaul. When warmer weather arrives, we will organize the raising of the complete tower and the installation of the antenna and rotator. With the completion of this activity, we will significantly improve our signal on the 14, 21 and 28 MHz bands. Besides this HF antenna, the tower will also have room for a 50 MHz antenna, a 144 MHz antenna and a few other things.

Below are several photographs taken during the recent activities.
